Stories from two rocketships

Dan Rose was a senior business developer at Amazon and Facebook (VP Partnerships) from 1999 to 2019, and is now chairman for Coatue Ventures. He has an interesting conversation on the Invest Like The Best podcast.

Among other things he talks about Jeff Bezos’ directive in 2004 to ‘let’s build Kindle to make sure we and not someone else kills the physical book business’. That at a time when the book business was the largest profit source for Amazon. That’s a rare example of a company trying to disrupt itself and putting a very senior person on it.

Also learnings on both product and people management from working with Mark Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg. Give it a listen!
